Remedy Entertainment has been on a bit of a roll in the past few years, beginning in 2019 when it launched its paranormal conspiracy-laden psychological thriller, Control. With an SCP-influenced story and vibe, the tale of psychically empowered Jesse Faden and her search for answers about her missing brother, and the nature behind her abilities within the halls of a shadowy government institution, Control was a Game of the Year caliber title for many fans and critics. Remedy then followed it up with last year’s lauded Alan Wake 2, with both titles being officially under the developer’s vision for tying all its releases under a shared world banner.

Now that the Remedy Connected Universe is in full gear and Control 2 is in the works, in many ways, it seems to be set up as an analogous equivalent to Marvel’s Phase 2 for its cinematic universe. While Alan Wake 2 served as a transitionary game that led into the next stretch of the RCU, Control 2 will theoretically be the proper first entry in the latest cycle of the RCU. With this in mind, there are a few items and inclusions that would be excellent for Control 2 to address and contain.

Wishlist of Features and Inclusions for Control 2

Answer Some of Control’s Biggest Mysteries

Remedy is known for its devotion to and interest in complex narratives, often with opaque elements that add a layer of surrealism. Even going back to its earlier releases with the games-like-similar/”>gritty noir detective Max Payne series, the studio sprinkled in plot and character moments that hinted at something more sinister and supernatural behind the scenes. Control took this to the next level and introduced a twisting network of intrigues and tantalizing hints about its wider world. The central tale surrounding Jesse and her brother, Dylan, and what really happened to them was only vaguely and cryptically addressed by the conclusion, adding to the overall mystery. Control 2 seems obliged to provide further answers to this and more by showing fans how deep the rabbit hole may go.

More Fun/Cool Powers and Weapons

A good narrative can go a long way, but the gameplay to match is what sets great titles apart. One of the highlights of Control was the suite of stellar powers players obtained for Jesse as they delved deeper into the mysteries of the Oldest House and the ongoing inter-dimensional invasion of it by the alien psychic collective known as the Hiss. As they unlock increasingly useful abilities like levitation and telekinesis, Control‘s almost Metriodvania-like level design and combat encounters complement their design. Fans can hopefully expect to see most if not all the original powers return, perhaps with new or upgraded spins on them to boot. More variations in the form of weapons that the shape-shifting service weapon can take on as well would be a fitting and cool improvement.

Have Another Standout Soundtrack

Remedy has usually been diligent about having the music in its games align with the setting and tone as well, and Control arguably has one of the best breakout moments to prove this. In particular, when players encounter Control‘s Ashtray Maze section, a track appropriately titled “Take Control” accompanies them through its winding paths as they are assaulted by enemies. This absolutely blazing anthem by Finnish rockers Poets of the Fall (under the name Old Gods of Asgard, also seen in both Alan Wake games) created a memorable moment on top of the rest of its eerie and foreboding soundscape, and the sequel should be sure to continue in the same vein.

Continue Building the Remedy Connected Universe

As mentioned, the sequel will likely be the entry that brings the RCU into its next arc. With the strong links established between Control and Alan Wake, it’s a fair assumption that fans will see more of that connection first and foremost in Control 2. But knowing Remedy, there are probably additional surprises and reveals in store. Perhaps it will call back to 2016’s Quantum Break in some way, and/or have teasers for completely new titles/characters. In any event, Control 2 is poised to have some major inclusions that will hopefully elevate it to even greater heights than the first.
