10 Most Underpowered Weapons In Elden Ring

Highlights

  • Not all weapons in Elden Ring are created equal, with some being underpowered and lacking utility in combat situations.
  • Unique designs and cool lore don’t always make up for lackluster performance in weapons like the Eclipse Shotel or Varre’s Bouquet.
  • Players may need to carefully consider weapon choices in Elden Ring, as some weapons like the Cane Sword may not be as effective as alternatives.

Souls games are known for an extensive range of weapons and FromSoft’s latest release, Elden Ring, is not shy about this fact. Elden Ring offers a diverse range of weapons, ranging from traditional weapons like Swords, Spears, Axes, and Shotels to unconventional ones like a Candlestand, Torch, or a Giant Wheel. While Elden Ring has an assortment of weapons, all weapons in the game are different from each other, bearing different damage, damage types, range, and requirements to wield the weapon.

Lies Of P: 14 Weapons You Should Upgrade

With 40+ weapons for players to discover, purchase, and loot in Lies of P, there are a lot of different combinations to choose from and upgrade first.

Not all weapons will perform the same in the game and some might be useful in specific situations or enemies. Elden Ring has some overwhelmingly overpowered weapons, but on the flip side of the coin, the game also has weapons that are quite underpowered while using them. These underwhelming weapons can be used by players to find ways to make their experience in The Lands Between full of hardships. For whatever reason players might equip these weapons, here are the most underpowered weapons in the game that could use a bit of help.

10 Dragon Greatclaw

Despite Its Name, Its Mediocre Performance Puts It Far From Great

Dragon Greatclaw Endure Elden Ring

  • Requirements: Strength – 30 / Dexterity – 14
  • Scaling: Strength – D / Dexterity – D

The first weapon in the list, Dragon Greatclaw, is a colossal weapon that scales on strength and dexterity. It is a good weapon against Dragon-type enemies as it deals extra damage to them. Dragon Greatclaw isn’t the weapon players dreamed of using when they first saw it in the hands of mighty Tree Sentinels.

With decent requirements to use this weapon, Dragon Greatclaw deals the lowest total damage out of all colossal weapons, and even with high investments in stats, the weapon’s damage doesn’t scale well. Dragon’s Greatclaw can also not be infused with Ashes of War, nor can it be enchanted with magic or strengthened by consumables, which further restricts its utility in combat.

On top of this, Dragon Greatclaw possesses a mediocre weapon skill that is not very useful against enemies as its only utility is to reduce the damage taken for a few seconds. It’s a slow weapon with underwhelming damage. Sadly, looks cannot compensate for the lack of utility, making it inadequate in combat.

9 Cane Sword

Looks Do Not Compensate For Power

Cane Sword

  • Requirements: Strength – 8 / Dexterity – 11
  • Scaling: Strength – E / Dexterity – D

A sword that looks like a cane—Cane Sword—gets full points when it comes to style, but the same cannot be said for its performance. Cane Sword comes with some of the worst base damage for straight swords in the game, which isn’t fixed with scaling. The range on this weapon is also the shortest, even among other short swords, giving other weapons an edge over it.

If damage and range had been the only issues, it would have been acceptable, but the weapon also has the exact same light and heavy attacks, which makes it even duller and truly puts this weapon in the underpowered category.

8 Eclipse Shotel

Fails To Claim The Legendary Status

Elden-Ring Curved-Sword-Eclipse-Shotel

  • Requirements: Strength – 10 / Dexterity – 25 / Faith – 30
  • Scaling: Strength – E /Dexterity – 25 / Faith – D

Eclipse Shotel is one of the nine Legendary Weapons in Elden Ring, but it hardly justifies its title. It possesses a unique skill that can apply death blight ailment to enemies when attacked. With death blight not effective in most parts of the game, its use in encounters is a rare sight.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 players should seriously consider keeping the following spells handy at all times.

For a Legendary Weapon, Eclipse Shotel moves like a regular Shotel with no unique maneuvers. This weapon can neither be infused with Ashes of War nor strengthened by Magic or consumables. Eclipse Shotel doesn’t scale well with levels and with average damage, this weapon is pretty underpowered to use.

7 Varre’s Bouquet

Bad Scaling For An Arcane Weapon

Varre's Boquet

  • Requirements: Strength – 8 / Dexterity – 16 / Arcane – 24
  • Scaling: Strength – E / Dexterity – D / Arcane – C

Elden Ring has a few weapons that look different from the others. Varre’s Bouquet is one such weapon. With the appearance of a bouquet of roses, Varre’s Bouquet is a beautiful steel mace with the petals of roses dyed with the blood of enemies. Sadly, its unique design is the extent of its good features.

Varre’s Bouquet requires Arcane stats along with Strength and Dexterity, putting it in a weird spot for players to use. The rose mace also has some of the worst damage-dealing abilities for a weapon that scales on Arcane, making it extremely ineffective in combat. games-use-art-weapon/”>The Weapon Art on this mace is not useful due to the weapon’s range, putting this weapon among some of the other underpowered picks.

6 Blade of Calling

Cool Lore But Better Alternatives Exist

Blade of Calling Attack Showcase in Elden Ring

  • Requirements: Strength – 6 / Dexterity – 13 / Faith – 15
  • Scaling: Strength – D / Dexterity – D / Faith – C

Wielded by Melina, one of the toughest enemies in Elden Ring, Blade of Calling is a dagger in the game that scales on Faith, Strength, and Dexterity. With a short range as expected from daggers, Blade of Calling compensates for it with its unique weapon skill that allows players to shoot a projectile that deals holy damage.

The thing that puts Blade of Calling on the list of underpowered weapons is the existence of another named Black Knife. Also a weapon that scales on Faith and Dexterity, Black Knife, is a weapon that is simply Blade of Calling but better in every sense. With similar requirements and lesser damage-dealing abilities, Blade of Calling is often seen as a weaker alternative to the Black Knife.

5 Torchpole

A Torch Can Only Do Enough

Elden Ring Tarnished wielding Torchpole spear

  • Requirements: Strength – 14 / Dexterity – 15
  • Scaling: Strength – D / Dexterity – D

Torchpole is a spear-type weapon in the game that scales with strength and dexterity and deals fire damage. Torchpole flaunts a good range of attacks that work in harmony with its weapon skill to deal decent physical damage. However, with low fire damage, Torchpole becomes underwhelming to use over time.

A lengthy adventure awaits all in Stellar Blade, even if it’s not for everybody. Here’s how long the journey should take.

Another problem with the weapon is that it cannot be infused with Ashes of War or reinforced by consumables, nor can it be enchanted by magic, further limiting its uses. The spear paired with lackluster damage and stamina management puts it below many other spears in the game that can utilize Ashes of War and buffs.

4 Grafted Dragon

Underwhelming Power For a Dragon

Godrick Dragon Remembrance Elden Ring

  • Requirements: Strength – 20 / Dexterity – 14 / Faith – 16
  • Scaling: Strength – D / Dexterity – D / Faith – D

Grafted Dragon is a Fist-type weapon that players can equip on their hand to deal fire damage to enemies. This Grafted Weapon empowers the fists, giving it the force of a dragon in the form of a gauntlet.

Grafted Dragon comes with an exclusive weapon skill that deals fire damage in an area, but it is rather slow, and performing it at extremely close range can put the players in a disadvantageous position in battle. Grafted Dragon can also only be equipped on a single hand, which further limits its potential.

Overall, Grafted Dragon has potential as a unique weapon that supports a rather gutsy playstyle, but the weapon only shines as a niche pick and feels underpowered when used as the main source of damage.

3 Magma Whip Candlestick

Weak And Ineffective Range

  • Requirements: Strength – 8 / Dexterity – 16 / Faith – 18
  • Scaling: Strength – E / Dexterity – D / Faith – D

Probably one of the weirdest-looking weapons on this list, the Magma Whip Candlestick is literally a candlestick which, when used, extends like a whip to deal fire damage. The weapon is equipped with a chargeable skill that comes with a low FP cost. Players can swirl the whip to cover their surroundings in a sea of magma to deal damage to enemies while walking around.

Magma Whip Candlestick is good against normal enemies, but with the build-up it takes, it suffers against bosses in the game. The FP cost is minimal, but due to its range and damage, it remains among other underpowered options in Elden Ring.

2 Duelist Greataxe

High Requirements To Make It Usable

Frenzied-duelist-elden-ring-2

  • Requirements: Strength – 30 / Dexterity – 10
  • Scaling: Strength – E / Dexterity – D

Another colossal weapon, the Duelist Greataxe is a games-with-high-skill-ceiling/”>mighty weapon with high entry requirements as players have to invest a lot before using it. Duelist Greataxe might seem like a weapon that is good once players can use it, but the weapon does things in the opposite fashion.

Duelist Greataxe needs high investments in strength stat but it scales on dexterity, making it difficult to put into use, and requires players to spend a significant amount on leveling before they can tap into its true powers. It’s quite slow as well and with polar opposite scaling and requirements, this weapon severely underperforms.

1 Rosus Axe

Cool Weapon Skill But Ineffective

Elden Ring Rosus Axe held by player

  • Requirements: Strength – 18 / Dexterity – 10 / Intelligence – 18
  • Scaling: Strength – D / Dexterity – E / Intelligence – D

Axes are great for hacking enemies in half, but even with a range longer than most axes, Rosus Axe is still among the most underwhelming weapon choices in the game. It does impressive damage with each swing, but it has its shortcomings that weigh heavily against it.

Rosus Axe comes with a unique weapon skill that does good damage, but with the attack animation so slow, the weapon skill often misses enemies, leaving the player vulnerable. Rosus Axe also deals death magic damage, but the weapon scales on Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence, while death magic requires faith scaling, leaving it with underwhelming magic potency.
