The AMD Ryzen 7 8700F will hit the market on May 14, according to a newly emerged Amazon listing. The premature page also leaked the price point of the upcoming AMD processor, which may be a bit higher than some enthusiasts have been hoping for.

AMD officially announced the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F in mid-April 2024, shortly after name-dropping them at a company event in China. However, the announcement did not include any pricing information, nor did it attach a release date or release window to either CPU.

The precipitate page states that the processor will be released on May 14 at a $299.99 price point, as spotted by VideoCardz. Twitter user @momomo_us found another premature listing for the Ryzen 5 8400F, which attached a $189.99 price tag to the budget CPU. Both pages were pulled promptly after going live in early May, with that turn of events possibly signaling that the information contained on them was legitimate.

Leaked AMD Ryzen 8000 Series Details

The Ryzen 7 8700F’s $299 price tag may be a bit higher than enthusiasts were hoping for, as it’s only 25% lower than that of the Ryzen 7 7700X. Despite being nearly two years old at this point, and contrary to what its naming convention may suggest, the Ryzen 7 7700X appears to be partially superior to the Ryzen 7 8700F, not least because it boasts double the L2 and L3 cache sizes. Granted, AMD isn’t exactly targeting enthusiasts with the Ryzen 7 8700F to begin with, as the upcoming processor is seemingly largely geared toward original equipment manufacturers putting together pre-built PCs.

Consistent with AMD’s product naming conventions, the “F” designation in the Ryzen 5 8400F and Ryzen 7 8700F monikers means that the upcoming processors lack an integrated GPU. While iGPU-less CPUs are nothing out of the ordinary, the lack of an integrated graphics unit does limit the potential applications of the Ryzen 5 8400F. That’s primarily because its low-end nature obviously makes it geared toward budget builds, the kind of PCs that may want to avoid having a dedicated GPU to save costs, which is something that simply isn’t an option with an iGPU-less processor.

Given that state of affairs, the Ryzen 5 8400F and Ryzen 7 8700F may end up seeing the most use in budget gaming setups, as even the most price-conscious PCs intended for playing modern games will come with dedicated GPUs. AMD is expected to officially confirm the pricing and availability info of the upcoming CPUs in the coming days.
