Expeditions are an important part of gameplay in Anno 1800. In addition to opening up new regions of the map, players can also use them to rescue valuable characters or to retrieve rare animals, ornaments, and botanical specimens for display in zoos, museums, and gardens. Before and during each Expedition, the assigned ship will have a Morale level, which needs to be kept above 0. Failing to do this will result in the termination and failure of the mission. Worse still, it can lead to the loss of the entire ship and its crew in some circumstances. To increase Morale, players can equip Expedition ships with Rations and Items.
Anno 1800: Best City Layouts
When looking to build a well-functioning city in Anno 1800, these layouts are a great place to start.
Each Item or Ration will affect a different category of skills, and each mission will have its own skill requirements to be met. Skills are divided into the following categories:
- Crafting
- Diplomacy
- Faith
- Navigation
- Hunting
- Force
- Medicine
- Naval Power
While not every skill needs to be met for every Expedition, there are certain thresholds which players will need to cross. This can be done by equipping Items and Rations that match the specific mission requirements. Items can be obtained through Trading, Expeditions, Combat, or simply through increases in population and city attractiveness. While some Items may require DLC content to unlock, the vast majority of the best Expedition items will be available to players in the base game.
6 Rocket Barrage
Useful In Both Combat & Expeditions
The Rocket Barrage is an Epic tier Item that can primarily be used to strengthen a ship’s overall combat effectiveness. In addition to its 999% Damage Modifier when targeting buildings, the item also grants +25 Force, +10 Hunting, and +45 Naval Power on Expeditions.
These attributes can be very useful if the mission requires them, and will bulk up and normal exploratory vessels to put them at the same level as many Military Ships. While the bonuses may not be especially helpful against pirates, they should be more than enough to cover these areas, especially on lower-risk Expeditions.
5 Polyglot Scholar Rahim
A Pacifist Item Good For Getting Expeditions Started
Polyglot Scholar Rahim is a unique card players can acquire by completing various quests in the Land of Lions DLC. When equipped, this item will tender a ship pacifist. This will prevent it from being attacked by any enemy ships, while also reducing the ship’s attacking capability in the process. This can be crucial for getting expedition ships to their intended target in one piece, without the need for a military escort.
The item will also add +10 Movement Speed, +50 Diplomacy, and +30 Faith. In addition to all this, Polyglot Scholar Rahim also possesses the Hypnotist trait, which may come in handy during certain Expedition scenarios. For example, when dealing with a local tribe, there may be an option to use the Hypnotize trait to persuade or convince them of something.
4 Captain Richard Moses, Skipper of Schooners
A Strong Navigation Item With Advantages In Confrontations
A very strong overall ship item, the Legendary Captain Richard Moses will grant ships +25% Movement and +500% Self Repair. This way, even in the event that they are attacked, the ship will be more than likely to escape before receiving catastrophic damage. An additional -75% Damage from Torpedoes will also be useful if players are at war with some of the more powerful factions in the game.

Captain Richard will add +30 Force, +10 Naval Power, and +50 Navigation to any Expedition. He also possesses the Pirate trait. With these attributes combined, the “Skipper of Schooners” truly excels as one of the best overall Ship items, as well as one of the best for use in Expeditions.
3 Wilma The Wild, Bearer of Barracudas
Powerful Item With Several Beneficial Skills and Traits
Wilma The Wild is by far one of the strongest Expedition items. Players should always ensure she is equipped before setting off on an expedition (provided they have obtained the item). In addition to adding +100% Accuracy and Attack Speed to Military ships, she will also add the Unwavering trait to ships. This grants them additional firepower when Hitpoints drop below half way.
For Expeditions, this item will add +25 Force, +25 Navigation, and +55 Naval Power. On top of that, WIlma The Wild also has the Pirate trait, which can help during certain Expedition scenarios. These traits combined make for a stalwart Expedition item that is sure to improve the crew’s chances of success considerably.
2 Georgina Duffy, The Call Your Bluffy
A Powerful Item With Advantages In Naval Combat
Despite the odd nickname, Georgina Duffy is one of the best character items that players can equip before heading out on a dangerous Expedition. In addition to providing Active Healing (enabling self repair even during combat), ships will also receive -50% Damage from rival ships.

Lord High Admiral Nadasky, whose exploits are mentioned during the Sunken Treasures DLC, is available as a Legendary ship item. He offers some of the best advantages to Expedition vessels. In addition to +20% Movement Speed, this item will also grant +25 Force, +25 Navigation, and +55 Naval Power.
These advantages can be a great starting point for some of the more difficult expeditions in the game. Naval Power and Force can be improved by equipping Advanced Weapons, while many other items will improve Navigation. Overall, this is still a very strong item for Expedition ships.
