Best Horror Video Games Based on Horror Movies – HorrorBuzz

[

If you are into Horror movies and would like to extend your experience into your gaming entertainment, this post is for you. Check out the best Horror video games based on iconic movies that you have probably watched a hundred times.

Friday the 13th: The Game

The game truly nails the chilling and intense atmosphere of the original movie plus the publisher has its own extra plot twists like the one near the campfire. The developers were clearly very passionate about the main character and it shows as they stay faithful to the key elements and concepts of the movie.

You can also guess that dedication in the fact that the iconic music by Harry Manfredini was added to the game and it sets a perfect tone of menace. It is interesting how the game has different versions of Jason, with unique abilities and arsenal, allowing one to explore all possible scenarios.

The weak points of the game are some cliches that attentive players may notice. Also, if you play it for a while you start noticing certain repetitive patterns. On the other hand, the challenges it poses for the player offering them to try and survive the night is truly thrilling.

If you are fascinated by the Friday the 13th franchise, you will certainly enjoy some of the most iconic scenes of the movie in your gaming adventure. The attention to detail in this game is amazing.

The Mummy: Demastered

Let’s say this out loud and admit that the Tom Cruise movie with the new Mummy was… not so good. There were a couple of things good about it but not much. Betting on the most boring slot game at online casinos that offer free spins for $1 would be less predictable than knowing that the movie would fail.

However, don’t be fooled by this connection of the movie to the game because the game is so much better than the movie.

Speaking in bloggers’ words, The Mummy: Demastered shines brightly as a top-notch Metroidvania game, and it has very little to do with its movie counterpart.

The game is very dynamic as the players are offered the role of the monster hunter who has to fight the cursed Egyptian Princess’ zombies, rats, insects, and so on. The game offers plenty of satisfaction because every encounter advances the plot forward and enhances the main character. On the other hand, you risk it all and if you lose, you lose everything so the game is pretty complicated to begin with.

This retro setting of the game brings a wave of nostalgia, at least to the older players, while the music and the effects start feeling even better than the expensive and complicated movie that turned out boring eventually. But this game is never boring.

It must be said that the difficulty level feels pretty unbalanced at times as players can’t figure out how to move forward and this can be frustrating. This is why the game may not appeal to everyone. However, the game is still very refreshing in the way it combines retro visuals and feel with cutting-edge gameplay mechanics.

Blair Witch

The Brail Witch game offers two options for The Blair Witch Project fans – you will either love it or completely hate it.

It somehow misses the suspense we are all so familiar with from the original movie so it might not be someone’s favorite at all. However, it offers an exciting journey over the Burkittsville woods that the fans of Horror games might not be able to stand.

The players are offered to join the quest to find a missing child, and as they unravel the tale they find more and more haunting things that make the game truly exciting. Even though the original atmosphere of the movie might be compromised and the fans can point a finger at that, the game is definitely unsetting, giving the feeling of the witch lurking constantly somewhere nearby.

The attention to detail is something worth the praise. Players can explore the iconic house, with all the handprints and other nuances. At times, the pacing may feel a bit sluggish and off, but if you like the game you will find it very personalized in terms of sending chills down your spine.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul

While there are way scarier movies (and video games!) these days than the legendary Paranormal Activity franchise, there is one unsettling truth about the whole concept that still makes it good enough to enjoy.

The Paranormal Activity concept gets under the viewer’s and player’s skin for one simple reason that all that is happening is connected to everyday life we all know. The setting is not fantastic, not a single bit; anyone can imagine themselves in the same circumstances.

The game adaptation called The Lost Soul offers its players to visit an average family home that is filled with supernatural activity. The game is initially intended to be played in VR and if you do so you will have to literally keep an eye on every corner of every room.

Some players, however, find the VR experience too intense, almost physically discomforting. Moreover, for some, the jumpscares and screamers are trivial while others may get too impressed.

In any case, The Lost Soul is a good example of a Horror VR video game that offers an immersive experience.
