Blizzard is Shutting Down the WoW Companion App

World of Warcraft players will only have a few more months to use the mobile Companion App on iOS and Android, as Blizzard announced that the free app will be retired soon. The World of Warcraft Companion App, launched in 2018 by combining the Mobile Armory and Legion Companion apps, will no longer be supported when The War Within is released.

Like the apps that preceded it, the World of Warcraft Companion App is a free mobile app that allows players to manage and track various activities as far back as the Warlords of Draenor expansion. The app supports tracking command missions, world quests, and where a player stands with the major factions of a given expansion, such as Dragonflight‘s seven factions. In addition to tracking expansion features, the Companion App allows players to buy and sell various goods at the player-run auction house, track events in the calendar, and chat with guild and community members from any up-to-date iOS or Android device. The app is not compatible with any World of Warcraft: Classic activities. At the time of writing, the WoW Companion App was last updated on March 19, when Dragonflight Patch 10.2.6 was released.

World of Warcraft Changing Human Racial Ability in The War Within

World of Warcraft players who roll Humans should know about one change coming to one of their most iconic Racial Abilities in The War Within.

But despite its nifty features, the World of Warcraft Companion App’s days are now numbered. Blizzard confirmed via a blog post that the Companion App will be retired when The War Within pre-patch goes live. While the expansion has no release date at the time of writing, the expansion is currently in alpha testing, with a closed beta test to follow in the coming weeks. This means that, once The War Within is out, World of Warcraft players cannot download, update, or log into the Companion App on any mobile device. The app’s discontinuation will prevent players from accessing the auction house and calendar remotely, with no replacements planned.

When Will the WoW Companion App Be Discontinued?

Upon the release of The War Within pre-expansion patch.
The War Within is slated to launch in late summer to early fall 2024.
The app will be removed from the App Store and Google Play Store.

However, players can chat with their Battle.net friends and communities via the free Battle.net mobile app. But until the companion app is fully retired, World of Warcraft players can still use it during and after the release of Patch 10.2.7, Dark Heart. This new content update will introduce a story that will bridge the gap between Dragonflight and The War Within, and give the draenei and the trolls a heritage armor quest to complete.

Although the WoW Companion App will be retired in 2024, features like Warbands in The War Within will give players different ways to track their collections. It remains to be seen if Blizzard will offer players new ways to access World of Warcraft on the go.
