Doug Jones Disfigura

Dread Central is excited to announce exclusively that Doug Jones has joined the cast of the new upcoming 1950s-style Horror short Disfigura. The film, directed by Jake Bradbury and Toni Blando and written by Blando, is a strange and unsettling look at what it means to exist as a woman in the world.

In Disfigura, “Step into a world of 1950s suspense, where forward-thinking Anya is shaken by her husband’s strange new behaviors and the terrifying secret behind the word ‘Disfigura’.”

Blando said, “The story came from a few places. Mainly from my love for The Twilight Zone and Hitchcock movies and old black and white thrillers, but also from this anti-conformity message I’ve been battling with in my own life, especially in regards to gender roles and gender itself.

Doug Jones stars in Disfigura as Host, modeled after the famous Rod Serling himself. He introduces the story at hand and is, unsurprisingly, our host for the metaphorical evening. If you aren’t familiar with Doug Jones, you’ve probably seen him before, just under layers of makeup and latex. Jones has cut his teeth as an incredibly physical performer who often plays monsters, such as the Faun and the Pale Man in Pan’s Labryinth, the fishman in The Shape Of Water, and Abe Sapien in both Hellboy films by Guillermo del Toro. Yes, he and del Toro are obviously attached at the hip.

But in Disfigura, Jones puts aside the monster makeup and appears as a human, speaking dialogue straight to the camera. By no means is Jones a stranger to this (he’s appeared in almost 200 films and series, after all), but here, he gets to fulfill a very specific dream.

Doug Jones said about his role as Host,

“As a child, watching Rod Serling host and narrate both Twilight Zone and Night Gallery, I was such a fan and hoped one day I could fill his shoes in some way. I’m grateful to the Disfigura team for affording me the chance to do just that with a 1950s look and vibe as I played host for this talented young cast. It was also a treat for me to be a human on film while celebrating the young talent in prosthetics, Kiersten Thomsen.”

Starring alongside Jones in Disfigura is Alexa Cappiello as Anya Bowens, Kevin Brooks as George Bowens, and Sasha Feldman as Chip and Kiersten Thomsen as Beth.

The film is produced in collaboration with More Like This Productions and Echobend Pictures, with sponsorship from LaCie and DZOFilm. It was filmed at The Count’s Den and in Riverside California.

Disfigura is currently in post-production. Keep an eye on Dread Central for more updates as we have them!
