Edgar Pushes Forward at ADAC GT4 Germany Opener.

The ADAC GT4 Germany Championship kicked off at Oschersleben last weekend, with Northern IrishmanTom Edgar making his debut in the series.  Adapting to a new track in a new series, the BMW driver charged forward as the weekend developed..

Starting in P15 for race one, Tom made a quick start, gaining a position in the opening moments. Several laps of close Racing saw him drop back to his original position, before retaking P14. The rest of his stint would go mostly without incident as he kept pace with the pack, heading into the pits for an early driver change.  Team mate Joseph Warhust took over the car, sitting in P15 as the pit window closed. With the field now more spread out as a result of the pit stops, much of this stint was spent catching the pack before making an overtake at the Hotel hairpin. Maintaining momentum, he took further positions to get up to P11. Chasing down the Porsche of Berndt, the top ten was just out of reach as the chequered flag waved.

Joe contested the first stint of race two, starting in P14. Another quick start for the BMW M4 saw Joe move into P13 on the first lap. As the race developed, he made his way up to P10 and stayed there as the pit window opened. A full course yellow followed by a safety car gave the perfect opportunity for a pit stop as Tom took over the car, leaving the pits in P7. The incident that caused the safety car led to a red flag as a barrier was repaired, delaying the restart.  Tom battled his way up to P4 where he stayed for several laps before the stewards deemed his overtake too aggressive, demanding he change positions with the Mercedes of De Fulgencio. The disappointment wouldn’t last long however, as he retook P4 a lap later. The cars ahead were then able to pull a gap, as Tom now had to defend his position from the Porsche of Birch.

In the final moments of the race, he was overtaken by Birch and was immediately under pressure once again, this time by the BMW of Fourie who also made his way past.  Crossing the line in P6, Tom finished an impressive 8 positions higher than where the car began the race.

Tom Edgar: It was a good, productive weekend overall, we grew into it and found our feet as we had more track time. Adapting quickly to new tracks is always a challenge, but I’m happy with my performance for the first race of the season. We struggled to find our feet in qualifying but the way we moved forward, especially in Race 2, demonstrated good race pace. That is really promising, and it’s a good place to build on for the rest of the year. I’m looking forward to Lausitzring in a few weeks and seeing what we can do there.
