Highlights
- Not all weapons in Elden Ring are worth the grind, with some lacking in damage output, scaling, and unique effects.
- Crystal Sword, Eclipse Shotel, Varre’s Bouquet, and other weapons on the list fall short in comparison to better alternatives.
- Players should be aware of underwhelming weapons like Troll Knight Sword and Vulgar Militia Saw to avoid wasting time and effort.
Elden Ring is one of the best RPGs of all time and has incredible replayability. FromSoftware has provided a variety of weapons in this game, making it the largest arsenal in the soul genre. While many good weapons are in the game, some aren’t worth the grind. Although exploring the dynamic world of the Elden Ring is amazing, investing a significant amount of time in a specific location or boss encounter might be frustrating just to discover that the rewards aren’t particularly helpful.
The Elden Ring Weapons That Have Changed the Most Since Launch
Elden Ring has gone through some changes since it was first launched, including some significant nerfs and buffs to its many weapons.
There are many reasons why weapons in this list could be better, including the lack of high-quality ashes, the stats required to equip them, or the damage value. These weapons can be effective in specific scenarios but fail to grab players’ interest in the long run due to their lack of reliability.
10 Crystal Sword
Weapon Skill: Spinning Slash
- Stats Requirements: Str 13, Dex 10, Int 15
- Base Scaling: Str (D), Dex (E), Int (D)
Crystal Sword is an intelligence-based straight sword that scales primarily with Intelligence, Strength, and Dexterity. The weapon’s most frustrating aspect is its inability to get buffed from magical enhancements or consumables. Additionally, it cannot be imbued with any ashes of war.
After the recent poise damage nerf to straight swords, the status of this sword has further declined. Fortunately, better alternatives to this straight sword are available in the game. Players can find this sword on a corpse near the edge of the Village of the Albinaurics, located beyond the well and across the wooden bridge.
9 Eclipse Shotel
Weapon Skill: Death Flare
- Stats Requirements: Str 10, Dex 25, Fai 30
- Base Scaling: Str (E), Dex (D), Fai (D)
Eclipse Shotel is a Curved Sword and another weak weapon in the game that is not worth the grind. This weapon relies on Faith and Dexterity scaling and inflicts the death ailment on enemies. However, like the crystal sword, it cannot be enhanced with buffs or war ashes.
Its base damage is lacking, with relatively high requirements of Faith and Dexterity, and its scaling is mediocre. Furthermore, it suffers from poor range and inflicts the death-blight effect. Eclipse Shotel can be found at the altar of the church in the southeast section of the Castle Sol.
8 Varre’s Bouquet
Weapon Skill: Blood Tax
- Stats Requirements: Str 8, Dex 16, Arc 24
- Base Scaling: Str (E), Dex (D), Arc(C)
Varré’s Bouquet, a Hammer in Elden Ring, is probably one of the weakest weapons in the game due to its low damage output and lack of effects. It scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity, and Arcane and offers extremely low damage compared to any other arcane-scaling or occult-affinity weapon. Its only non-unique ashes of war, Blood Tax, improves the weapon’s damage but not something extraordinary.
Players can find this weapon from White Mask Varré at the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, right before the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint site of grace. Players must defeat White Mask Varré and complete his dialogues to get the weapon.
7 Ivory Sickle
Weapon Skill: Quickstep
- Stats Requirements: Str 8, Dex 16, Int 24
- Base Scaling: Str (6), Dex (11), Int(13)
Ivory Sickle is an intelligence-based dagger that cannot be infused or buffed and takes quick steps as the ashes of war. The weapon’s base damage is terrible, and the scaling is average. The crit ratio of the dagger is 100, which is disappointing as there are many other better daggers in the game with a high crit ratio and physical damage that makes the hassle of unlocking this weapon meaningless.
Players can find this weapon in a stone coffin at the Village of the Albinaurics.
6 Watchdog’s Greatsword
Weapon Skill: Stamp (Upward Cut)
- Stats Requirements: Str 8, Dex 16, Arc 24
- Base Scaling: Str (E), Dex (D), Arc(C)
Although Watchdog’s Greatsword is a colossal weapon, the weapon has nothing special to offer. It is a strength-based weapon that can be scaled with Strength and Dexterity. It comes with the default ashes of war Stamp. Although the weapon can be buffed with ashes of war, consumables, and magic, the base physical damage is still average as compared to other colossal weapons.
Elden Ring: Worst Weapons, Ranked
It’s best to know what weapons players should avoid in Elden Ring so that they can have a better time in the Lands Between without dying so much.
Obtaining this weapon is also quite challenging due to its low drop rate, requiring a significant amount of grinding. However, considering its underwhelming stats, the effort involved in obtaining it may not be worthwhile. Watchdog’s Greatsword can be dropped by defeating Burial Watchdog in the Giants’ Mountaintops Catacombs
5 Duelist Great Axe
Weapon Skill: Endure
- Stats Requirements: Str 30, Dex 10
- Base Scaling: Str (E), Dex (D)
Duelist Great Axe is a colossal weapon in the game. It is a dexterity-based weapon with a high strength requirement, making it not suitable for grinding. Unlike the other weapons on this list, this axe can be infused with Ashes of War, and it can also be upgraded with magic and consumables.
After the recent adjustment to poise damage, the weapon has degraded even more. The drop rate of the weapon is also very low. Players can acquire the Duelist Great Axe as a drop from Duelist enemies located near the Colosseum in Leyndell, close to the West Capital Rampart Site of Grace.
4 Zamor Curved Sword
Weapon Skill: Zamor Ice Storm
- Stats Requirements: Str 16, Dex 16
- Base Scaling: Str (D), Dex (D)
The Zamor curved sword is one of the best-looking weapons in the game, but unfortunately, in terms of damage and scaling, it does not fit its looks. This sword scales primarily with Dexterity and less scaling in Strength. This weapon comes with the default skill of Zamor Ice Storm, which is good for frost buildup against enemies; however, its physical damage output and range fall considerably short compared to other swords in its class.
This weapon also lacks the ability to get buffed or enchanted and players can not imbue it with ashes of war. This weapon is dropped by defeating the Ancient Hero of Zamor boss found at the Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave dungeon.
3 Troll Knight Sword
Weapon Skill: Troll’s Roar
- Stats Requirements: Str 20, Dex 14, Int 18
- Base Scaling: Str (D), Dex (D), Int (D)
Troll Knight Sword is another intelligence-based weapon in the game, scaling mostly on Intellect, Strength, and Dexterity. The only weapon skill that can be utilized with this weapon is Troll’s Roar, which is considered relatively mid-tier. Players cannot infuse or buff it or imbue it with any ashes of war.
The high stat requirements and poor drop rate are more reasons why this weapon is not worth the time. The Troll Knight Sword can be obtained as a drop from defeating the Troll Knight in Caria Manor.
2 Vulgar Militia Saw
Weapon Skill: Spinning Slash
- Stats Requirements: Str 10, Dex 10
- Base Scaling: Str (D), Dex (C)
The Vulgar Militia Saw is a Halberd type of weapon. This weapon scales mostly with Strength and Dexterity. It is a nice weapon for blood-loss buildup. However, there is nothing unique about the Militia Saw that cannot be found in other weapons that perform better.
The default ability of the weapon, Spinning Slash, is very underpowered compared to other ashes of war in the game, and you cannot use any other ashes of war with it. Vulgar Militia Saw can be dropped by enemies wielding this weapon near the Bestial Sanctum in Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow.
1 Clinging Bone
Weapon Skill: Lifesteal Fist
- Stats Requirements: Str 8, Dex 22, Arc 16
- Base Scaling: Str (E), Dex (C), Arc(D)
Clinging Bone is technically a fist used as a weapon in the Elden Ring. This weapon scales with strength and arcane, but it also splits magic damage, which can be confusing on its own. The worst part of this weapon is that it does not come with any unique ash of war; instead, the only ash war players get with it is Lifesteal Fist.
Elden Ring: Worst Armor, Ranked
If players want to become a powerful Elden Lord in Elden Ring, then it’s best to avoid these armor sets that will only hinder their journey.
It also cannot be imbued with other ashes, nor can it be buffed or enchanted. Clinging Bone is dropped only by Ensha of the Royal Remains NPC at the Roundtable Hold.
