Final Fantasy XIV Suffered a DDoS Attack Before The Launch of Dawntrail

DDoS attacks are not unfamiliar to video games; on the contrary, we have witnessed several examples in recent years. Unfortunately, it was the turn of Square Enix’s most successful MMORPG. Final Fantasy XIV started the week on the wrong foot, as it is suffering from a DDoS attack, which basically consists of denying service to players who use it after the servers become saturated with requests that exceed their traffic capacity.

According to Square Enix’s blog, the issues players of Final Fantasy XIV were experiencing worldwide included server disconnections, difficulty in connecting and accessing, sending and receiving data from data centers worldwide. The situation seems to be resolved now, although Square Enix had to finish a maintenance scheduled in Lodestone earlier than planned, which took place over the last few hours.

Fortunately, Square Enix was quick to identify and communicate the problem through an official post. The company assured that it is already investigating the attack and taking measures to solve the difficulties. The bad news is that, as is normal in these cases, there is no way to know when the problem will be completely resolved.

Preparing Release Of the Dawntrail DLC

Square Enix has not yet located the root of the attack, although it has assured players that the situation is being investigated and appropriate measures are being taken.

Meanwhile, the Japanese company continues to work on Dawntrail, the new expansion of Final Fantasy XIV. Its release is scheduled for July 2nd on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PC, but users who pre-order will have early access starting from June 28th.

Additionally, the week of May 23rd is planned for the release of the new FFXIV benchmarking tool, and on May 16th, a new live letter is scheduled to showcase the new jobs of Dawntrail and updates for patch 7.0.
