It’s Heim Time at Kansas after Heim dominates in the Heartland – Speedway Digest – Home for NASCAR News

As the sun set in the western portion of the Kansas City metropolitan, it was clear what time it was to the thousands in attendance at the Kansas Speedway – It was Heim Time.

Corey Heim, who drives the No. 11 Toyota Tundra in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, was able to pick up his second win of the 2024 season at the Kansas Speedway in the Heart of America 200.

Heim is pulling double duty this weekend, much like he did last weekend at Dover, filling in for Erik Jones in the No. 43 Toyota Camry for Legacy Motor Club in the NASCAR Cup Series. Even though his weekend now is twice as busy, Heim says it didn’t distract him from his day job in the Truck Series.

I don’t think the truck and a cup card drive awfully different as far as the throttle time perspective goes, but I will say the feel of the car and truck are a lot different from one another. In the Truck race, I feel like you’re able to just really yaw the truck out and drive it really loose without any serious repercussions. When you step in the Cup car, and you get a little bit too free and you have a pretty good chance of wrecking the thing. So the mental switch I had to do between the car on the truck throw up today and yesterday was pretty tough, but I think with the Truck series, I feel like I’ve started enough races to sort of flip that switch.”

Heim, along with Nick Sanchez, Christian Eckes, and Rajah Caruth, have locked their way into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoffs, with Heim picking up two wins in the first eight races. When the NCTS returns in the fall in the first round of the playoffs, Heim believes they will be able to use a lot of the information from tonight to translate in September.

“This is going to be a big race for us,” Heim stated in the Media Center. “The other tracks that we’ve already run out of are going to be in the playoffs, we have struggled pretty bad this year.  So coming to the place that we’re able to execute and have the speed at is definitely huge. Executing on a race and hopefully winning the race is going to be huge to advance in the Playoffs. I definitely think this has always been one of our better tracks, and we got top fives in both of them last year.”

There were only three cautions in the 134 laps run at Kansas Speedway for the tough trucks of NASCAR; fewest in any NCWTS race ran at the 1.5 mile oval in series history. The race also saw eight different leaders with 13 lead changes, as well as an official run time of 1:34:17 hours long.

Friday, May 10th, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will take on the Lady in Black of Darlington Raceway. That race will be carried live at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
