Warhorse Studios finally announced Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 after various rumors, and it sees Henry of Skalitz returning as the protagonist. The open-world action RPG has a much larger scale than its predecessor, with spokesperson Tobias Stolz-Zwilling calling it a “behemoth” of a game that’s “twice the size” of the original.

What does that mean exactly? Speaking to IGN, Stolz-Zwilling said it encompasses “a bit of everything” from the map size and number of quests to new features. There are also two maps now, each as big as the first game.

“Theoretically, being twice the size could mean anything—map size, number of quests, new features… and I believe the answer includes a bit of everything. Yes, we have two maps now, each approximately the size of the first game. Yes, we will, of course, have more quests, cutscenes, random encounters and the like.

The team also revamped some of the previous game’s features while implementing some new additions, like crossbows and blacksmithing as an activity. “If you know how we handle our features, then you can be sure everything we added is based on our desire to create deep and engaging mechanics.”

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launches later this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC, once again utilizing CryEngine for its development. In the same interview, Stolz-Zwilling revealed the team stuck with the engine due to building its internal pipelines around it. It’s seeing some adjustments for the sequel as well, and the developer believes it’s “very different from what one would call a ‘CryEngine.’” Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
