New Sonic-Style Platformer Hits Kickstarter Funding Goal

Rollin’ Rascal, a Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros. inspired indie platforming game, has managed to hit its funding stretch goal on Kickstarter for a Nintendo Switch version. Rollin’ Rascal originally launched its Kickstarter campaign at the beginning of February, complete with a demo level on Steam. It allowed fans to try out its Sonic the Hedgehog-inspired high-speed gameplay, taking after other 3D Sonic adventures like Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations, with elements of 3D Super Mario Bros. games included as well.

Many players who tried the demo were very impressed, praising Rollin’ Rascal for the sense of speed and momentum-based challenges that was present in games-play-like-sonic-hedgehog/”>the gameplay of 3D Sonic the Hedgehog titles. It featured familiar moves like Sonic’s homing dash, spin attack, and double jump, but with a unique twist. It’s likely no surprise that Rollin’ Rascal had hit its minimum funding goal of $50K 12 hours after it launched. Curiomatic recently announced that Rollin’ Rascal‘s campaign has reached one of its biggest stretch goals too.

Sonic Superstars Adds Another Free DLC Costume

Another free DLC costume for Sonic Superstars is available to download now, with the outfit based on the upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations game.

On the Rollin’ Rascal Kickstarter campaign page, the developers were excited to announce that the campaign has surpassed $100K. With this milestone reached, Rollin’ Rascal will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. All digital backers who pledge to the campaign will be able to redeem their code on either Steam or the Nintendo eShop. Reaching $100K was also stretch goal that gave Rascal more outfits than just the the shorts and sneakers he wore in the reveal trailer. These new threads include sleepwear, racing gear, and even a dinosaur onesie.

Rollin’ Rascal‘s next stretch goal is $150K, where the developers will add a games/”>Hub World for players to explore that will give them access to various platforming challenges and levels. Following the announcement of the Outfit Pack 01 stretch goal being reached, a new goal was added to the campaign, Outfit Pack 02. If the campaign reaches $225K, the develoeprs will give four more outfits for Rascal to wear: a cowboy, snorkeling gear, astronaut, and snowman-themed attire.

While there have been plenty of games that are inspired by Sega’s franchise, many have praised Rollin’ Rascal‘s ideas, some even saying that it is on-par or even better than some of games/”>the best 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games. Other unique aspects that were praised include the online multiplayer mode, where players could race against each other in four distinct maps that had multiple pathways and shortcuts to navigate. Rollin’ Rascal is already shaping up to be a fun take that builds upon ideas from Sega’s iconic franchise.
