Some PlayStation Stars Members Didn’t Get Everything They Expected for Christmas

Highlights

  • PlayStation Stars members aren’t receiving loyalty points for holiday game purchases.
  • The loyalty program is similar to Microsoft Rewards but currently only accessible through the mobile app.
  • Sony acknowledges the issue and is expecting to fix it quickly, but some potential buyers are holding off on purchases until it is.

Some PlayStation Stars members are reporting that they didn’t receive any loyalty points for all the games they bought during the holidays. The program was first announced in June 2022, and those who participate can earn points by completing activities, called Campaigns, like playing specific games or unlocking particular in-game trophies, or buying games from the PlayStation Store. These PlayStation Stars points can then be exchanged for store credit or free games from a rotating list.

PlayStation Stars is Sony’s response to Microsoft Rewards, and there are a lot of similarities between the two programs. Stars is currently only accessible through the mobile app, however, which limits its scope and convenience somewhat, while Microsoft Rewards progress can be viewed on a phone, console, or web browser. The appeal for both is similar, though, with gamers earning points that can be redeemed to buy even more games.

One of PlayStation Stars’ most prominent features is a display case to fill with collectibles, and the same format could be used for Trophies.

Some PlayStation Stars users have reported that they haven’t received any loyalty points for the purchases they made during the holidays. Many people take advantage of the generous sales between Black Friday and the end of the year to stock up on games, DLC, and other in-game goodies, and one added benefit to that should be a significant boost in the number of PlayStation Stars points they have. But gamers are turning to Reddit to share that their loyalty points have not increased from purchases as expected.

How to Earn PlayStation Stars Points

  • Earn 10 points for every $1 spent on the PlayStation Store
  • Complete Campaigns

In one Reddit thread about the situation, user Bagolyfi stated that they contacted PlayStation customer support about their missing points and was told that it is a known issue. They were told that Sony would contact them within the next three to five days, so perhaps that is the projected timeline for the issue to be fixed. Apparently, the PlayStation Stars service in general is experiencing some hiccups, and nobody is getting awarded the points they’ve earned recently. Most people are not too worried, however, since they expect that the missing loyalty points will be awarded retroactively.

Hopefully, Sony will sort out the issue with the lagging PlayStation Stars points quickly. Some people were planning to take further advantage of ongoing holiday sales, and many gamers received PlayStation Store digital codes as gifts. But at least a few potential buyers are putting purchases on hold as they wait for the issue with PlayStation Stars points to be fixed.

There are more than just loyalty points to earn by actively participating in Sony’s console rewards program. Another core element of PlayStation Stars lies in completing simple Campaigns, or tasks, in order to earn digital collectibles that can then be displayed in a virtual display case. Since the program’s debut, there have been numerous collectibles released through the PlayStation Stars program, ranging from favorite video game characters and iconic weapons to nostalgic memorabilia like an old-school Sony Walkman.
