What is the cat in Erebus for in Hades 2?

Hades 2 is much like the first game, in that it doesn’t do a lot of hand-holding when it comes to completing tasks. Case and point, there are some friendly critters you can come across while playing the game. You can find them as early as Erebus, where a particularly interesting feline is waiting. But what is the cat in Erebues for in Hades?

Hades 2 — Where to find the cat in Erebus

Starting out in Hades 2, I was excited with all the returning systems like fishing to be back. There are new gameplay elements that have found their way into the game, and even more coming with future updates. Melione for example, can use Magick and was taught how by the goddess of witchcraft, Hecate.

As such, you can perform Incantations in between your runs. These Incantations function the same as the house renovator from the first game but with a whole heap of new features. One said feature, is the ability to give you a fountain room in Erebus with the Incantation called: Woodsy Lifespring.

Activate this ability, and when you first find the fountain room during one of your runs, you’ll come across an orange cat by the exit.

Hades 2 — What is the cat in Erebus for?

After you find the cat once, you’ve only just begun this long and arduous task. But at the end of this quest, you’ll find the cat Toula who is a Familiar that helps you out in battle.

You must visit the cat in the fountain room two more times before Melinoe offers to get the cat some food. After this dialogue prompt, you will have to ask the headmistress about the cat, but she won’t be too chatty until you knock her down a few times

To be more precise, you must defeat Hecate 10 times before she offers her guidance about your feline friend. She will tell you about the ability to harness Familiars, animals that give you different buffs, kinda like the little floating pets from Castle Crashers.

After finishing this talk, the next time you return to the Crossroads, you’ll have a new Incantation called Faith of Familiar Spirits. Perform the spell, and you’ll get the Witch’s Delight food that you can give to Toula the cat to become your Familiar.

Toula won’t be in the same place in Erebus once you get the food, you’ll have to make your way to the Rift of Thessaly which is on the surface. Familiars are just another bonus you can get from playing more runs in Hades 2, and when you combine a Familiar with a Keepsake.
