Best Free Killers In Dead By Daylight

Since its initial release in 2016, Dead by Daylight has continued to be a sensation in the world of asymmetrical horror games. Many companies have tried to create a competitor; games such as VHS, Evil Dead, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. All have ultimately failed, despite whispering that this new game would be the one that would finally knock Dead by Daylight from its perch.

Dead By Daylight: Every Killer, Ranked

Dead By Daylight allows players to play as their favorite killers from horror movies, along with some fresh faces. However, not all killers are equal.

Part of the reason behind its success is BHVR constantly adding new Killers and Survivors, growing their rosters of licensed and original characters. Of course, all these characters can be a little daunting, not to mention expensive, but players can save themselves a penny by focusing exclusively on the free Killers available to them, which can prove just as devastating, if not more so, than some paid Killers.

7 Philip Ojimo – The Wraith

His Cloaking Ability Renders Him Invisibile

Dead by Daylight The Wraith

Perks for The Wraith

  • Predator: Scratch marks are either slightly, moderately, or considerably closer together, depending on the tier unlocked.
  • Bloodhound: Pools of Blood can be seen for 2/3/4 more seconds. They appear in bright red.
  • Shadowborn: When Blinded, the Killer receives 6/8/10% Haste for 10 seconds.

Power: Wailing Bell

The killer can cloak themselves for invisibility, increased movement speed, and the Undetectable effect. They must uncloak to attack or interact with Survivors.

The Wraith was once considered strong following a buff to his Killer kit, but has once more has largely fallen to the wayside in favor of other, stronger Killers. He could be considered the weakest among all free Killers, but with one change to his major perk Shadowborn, it may still be worth leveling up the Wraith to unlock it.

As far as stealth Killers go, the Wraith may be the most difficult to use. Though he can turn almost completely invisible, unlike other stealth Killers, he must cloak in order to do so, and uncloak to actually interact with Survivors, such as picking up or attacking. Players can use certain add-ons to render their bell silent or so it rings across the map to ruse them, and their lunge can catch most Survivors.

6 Lisa Sherwood – The Hag (Console)

Her Traps Give Her Fantastic Mobility

Dead by Daylight The Hag

Perks for The Hag

  • Hex: The Third Seal: Survivors hit with a basic or special attack are inflicted with Blindness.
  • Hex: Ruin: Generators regress at 50/75/100% of their speed when notbeing repaired.
  • Hex: Devour Hope: The Killer gains one token when a survivor is rescued from a hook within 24 meters of the Killer. With two tokens, Survivors have a 3/4/5% Haste status for 10 seconds after being unhooked. With three tokens, Survivors are permanently inflicted with Exposed. With five tokens, the killer can kill all Survivors with their own hands.

Power: Blackened Catalyst

The Killer can have up to 10 Phantasm Traps. Survivors within the area of effect will spawn a Mud Phantasm. The Mud Phantasm disorients the player and emits a fake Terror Radius, and the Killer can teleport to them if they wish.

If playing on consoles, players gain additional free Killers, with one being the Hag, who is paid DLC on PC. The Hag has the potential for great mobility and map pressure, with her ability to teleport to the traps she places around the map, and perks such as Devour Hope and Ruin.

Dead By Daylight: The Best Killer Perks, Ranked

Dead by Daylight is a 4v1 multiplayer horror experience where killers kill and survivors survive. Here are the best killer perks in the game.

The traps can blend in wonderfully with dark maps or areas that are overgrown, which many Survivors may unwittingly trigger, which the Killer can then teleport to in order to deliver a devastating attack. But, this power can be countered by crouch-walking or destroying a trap with a flashlight.

5 Max Thompson Jr. – The Hillbilly

Successful Chainsaw Hits Can Insta-Down Survivors

Dead by Daylight The Hillbilly

Perks for The Hillbilly

  • Enduring: The duration of pallet stuns is reduced by 40/45/50%
  • Lightborn: Survivors attempting to blind the killer have their Auras revealed for 6/8/10 seconds. They gain immunity from being blinded by flashlights, flashbangs, and blast mines.
  • Tinkerer: Whenever a generator is repaired to 70%, there is a Loud Noise Notification for that generator. The killer becomes Undetectable for 12/14/16 seconds.

Power: The Chainsaw

Survivors hit by the Chainsaw Sprint are automatically put in the Dying state. Revving the chainsaw activates Overdrive. Once the Overdrive meter is full, players are given benefits to their speed and cooldown for 20 seconds.

Though his chainsaw can’t down more than once Survivor games-best-chainsaw-wielders/”>like Bubba, the Hillbilly’s kit gives him expertise in other areas. His ability to revv the chainsaw allows him to sprint great distances at great speed, and he can even move in directions to hit Survivors who are trying to zig-zag away from his path of destruction.

His abilities are among the toughest to learn, and even harder to master, but once players do, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the trials. His powers have recently been reworked to completely change how his chainsaw works, so now players want to keep revving into Overdrive to gain benefits to their speed and cooldown, which will certainly prove a boon when trying to hunt down particularly slippery Survivors.

4 Herman Carter – The Doctor (Console)

His Static Blast Stuns Survivors, or Reveals Their Location

Dead by Daylight The Doctor

Perks for The Doctor

  • Overwhelming Presence: The depletion rate of items used by players is increased by 80/90/100% when within the Terror Radius
  • Monitor & Abuse: The Terror Radius is reduced by up to 16 meters whenever not in chase with a Survivor. The base value of the Terror Radius is increased by 6/7/8 meters.
  • Overcharge: The killer can overcharge a Generator by damaging it. The next skill check will be extra difficult for the survivor. A failed skill check will result in a progressive loss of 2/3/4%. A success grants no progression bonus.

Power: Carter’s Spark

With each strike of a special ability, the survivors’ madness will increase, resulting in the Madness effect. Madness 3 renders Survivors incapable of doing anything other than the Snap Out Of It activity. Madness 3 Survivors will intermittently scream, revealing their location.

Despite his Killer name, the Doctor is no friend to Survivors. Rather than healing physical or mental maladies, he instead will be inflicting them, using his electricity powers to stun Survivors so he can gain a hit, or shock them into the depths of madness, which will prevent them from doing any activity other than running or snapping out of it.

Most Iconic Video Game Doctors

In video games‘ vast and diverse world, many memorable and beloved characters have left a lasting impact on players.

This power does sound powerful on paper, and indeed it can lead many Survivors to their death, but it can also be routed by learning how to effectively loop the Killer, and immediately Snapping Out of It when reaching madness level 3. But as far as free Killers go, the Doctor certainly is not a bad one to learn.

3 Evan MacMillan – Trapper

Ensnare Survivors to Make them Easy Prey

Dead by Daylight The Trapper

Perks for The Trapper

  • Unnerving Presence: Survivors repairing generators or healing within the Terror Radius are affected by this perk. It will increase the odds of a Trigger for skill checks by 10% and decrease the Success zone by 40, 50, or 60%.
  • Brutal Strength: The Action speed for pallets, breakable walls, and damaging generators is increased by 10, 15, or 20%.
  • Agitation: The Terror Radius is increased by 12 meters and the carrying speed is increased by 6/12/18% when carrying a player.

Power: Bear Trap

The Killer begins the trial with 2 Bear Traps; 8 Bear Traps are already spawned on the map. Bear Traps will trap players and put them in the Injured State. The Killer can also be trapped by a Bear Trap, but only temporarily.

The Trapper is part of the original quartet of Killers, and though there are plenty more choices in this day and age, he still remains strong when in the right hands. His Killer power means that he can still pressure objectives such as Generators or Hooked Survivors, and deal damage to Survivors even when he’s across the map.

His perks aren’t meta, and haven’t been in a long time, but players just starting out won’t have many perks to choose from, and they can be good for when just starting out. It’s his Killer power that is his main strength. And even this is offset by the possibility to become ensnared temporarily by his own traps, and eagle-eyed Survivors can spot and disarm them without having to step right into their jaws.

2 Anna – The Huntress

One of the Best Ranged Killers in the Game

Dead by Daylight the Huntress

Perks for The Huntress

  • Beast of Prey: This perk activates when the Killer is granted the Bloodlust effect. The killer becomes Undetectable and is given a 30/40/50% bonus to Bloodpoints for Hunter actions.
  • Territorial Imperative: Survivors who enter the basement have their Auras revealed for 4/5/6 seconds if the Killer is farther than 24 meters from the basement.
  • Hex: Huntress Lullaby: Survivors have a 2/4/6% regression penalty on failed skill checks. Each time the killer hooks a survivor, they gain 1 token. Each token shortens the time between the warning sound and the skill check.Power: Hunting Hatchets

The killer begins the trial with 7 Hunting Hatchets. Hatchets can be thrown. Killers need to look in lockers to refill them.

Ranged Killers have one of the best advantages in the game as they don’t need to get in close to cause damage, and the Huntress is one of the best in the game. This Killer starts with 7 Hatchets, and one hit will injure, with a second downing them unless they have the Iridiscent Head add-on equipped, which increases the lethality of her Hatchets.

She can be difficult to learn, but once players have enough practice, they will learn to read players and effectively hunt them and land those well-placed Hatchets. With players starting with 7, they have plenty of shots they can try before needing to reload.

1 Sally Smithson – The Nurse

The Nurse Can Teleport Through Anything

Dead by Daylight The Nurse

Perks for The Nurse:

  • Stridor: Grunts of pain have their volume increased by 25 or 50%. The volume of Survivors’ breathing is increased by 25%.
  • Thanatophobia: For every injured, hooked, or dying survivor, there will be a 1/1.5/2% stackable penalty to repairing, sabotaging, and cleansing speeds, for a maximum of up to 8%.
  • A Nurse’s Calling: Survivors who are either healing or being healed within 20/24/28 meters have their Auras revealed.Power: Spencer’s Last Breath

The Killer starts with two tokens, and can consume one to activate the Blink ability to teleport up to 20 meters.

The Nurse is one of the slowest Killers in the game, but this is more than made up for with her teleport ability. Though this can be difficult to get to grips with, once players do learn it, they will be one of the hardest Killers to evade on the entire game.

Not only can she teleport to bridge the distance between her and her prey, they aren’t even safe behind walls or on different floors to her, as her ghostly status allows her to pass right through them to where her prey hides. And her perks such as A Nurse’s Calling and Stridor serve to help her track Survivors with even more efficiency. Out of all the free Killers players have access to, the Nurse is definitely the strongest, and every Killer main should learn how to play her.
