Fallout 4: A Complete Guide to Supply Lines

Quick Links

Fallout 4 is one of Bethesda’s biggest RPGs to date, and ever since the company worked with Amazon to create the Fallout TV show, the game has seen an influx of players who weren’t aware of the game beforehand.

In the game, players will need to rebuild the Commonwealth after the Great War of 2077. To do this, they will be sent across the game’s world to look for survivors and help them create settlements (and mods can help a ton with this). Once there are enough settlements, players can build Supply Lines. Here’s a complete guide to how they work.

What Are Supply Lines?

Supply Lines are a mechanic that goes along with the Settlements and allows players to connect their Settlements together. In order to create a Supply Line, players need to ensure the following:

  1. They have two Settlements that they want to connect.
  2. There is at least one Settler in each Settlement that can be assigned to the Supply Line.
  3. They have Rank 1 in the Local Leader Perk (found in the Charisma section, which is great to grab early).

Once meeting these requirements, players can create a Supply Line between the Settlements, allowing players to have a connected Workshop Inventory among the connected Settlements. Settlements with extra food and water will be sent out via the Supply Lines, and if any Settlers working the Supply Lines are found in the Wasteland, players can send them off with items to take to the various Settlements.

Additionally, players will be able to monitor their Supply Lines and see what Settlements need via their Pip-Boy. To do this, head to the map portion of the Pip-Boy and look at the options at the very bottom of the map. Players will be able to place a marker, access the local map, show supply lines, and level up. If “Show Supply Lines” is selected, the map will show which Settlements are connected and how they are connected.

How To Create Supply Lines

Fallout 4 - Assigning Supply Lines

In order to create a Supply Line, players will need to access the Workshop menu. From there, select a Settler that the Settlement can do without and press the prompt shown at the bottom labeled “Supply Line.” This will allow the player to select the Settlement that the one they are currently at will be connected to. If successful, the Settler’s name will change to “Provisioner” rather than “Settler.”

What Settlements Should Be Connected With Supply Lines?

Fallout 4 - Supply Lines

The truth is, there is no clear-cut best way to set up Supply Lines. Players just want to ensure that Settlements are connected to at least one other Settlement; this ensures that they are all within the network of Supply Lines and will be able to have Provisioners traveling to them. There doesn’t need to be tens of Provisioners connected to a singular Settlement, but ensuring there is at least one will be helpful in the long run. It would be best to connect your best Settlements and then worry about the rest.
