Nintendo Confirms Switch Successor Announcement Is Imminent

A new Nintendo console is well overdue, but the company has now confirmed that it will unveil its next-generation system within the next year!

The original Switch came out over seven years ago, and Nintendo fans can’t wait for a new console to arrive. Fortunately, the next generation of Nintendo hardware isn’t too far away now.

While we don’t know any dates yet, Nintendo has finally confirmed that it is working on a new console and has also revealed that an official announcement about it is on the way!

A New Nintendo Console Will Be Announced This Financial Year

In a new statement on X (formerly Twitter), President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, said:

“We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”

This means that the next Nintendo console, thought to be the Switch 2, will finally be revealed at some point before the financial year ends on March 31, 2025.

Furukawa’s statement also says that there will be a Nintendo Direct presentation in June. However, this will be for Nintendo Switch titles releasing in the second half of 2024.

Therefore, the next Nintendo console announcement could be any time after this June Direct, but before April 1, 2025.

Despite the lack of time frame, we predict that the Switch 2 reveal will take place in October 2024.

This reveal would likely consist of a trailer for the new console and highlight its new features, such as the leaked magnetic Joy-Cons. Additionally, Nintendo could decide to reveal pricing and pre-order details in the reveal.

This time frame makes sense, as it would give time for hype around the console to build ahead of its rumored March 2025 release date. This schedule would also parallel the reveal and release time frame for the original Switch.
