What to Expect From the Persona Franchise in 2024

Highlights

  • Persona 3 Reload, a highly anticipated remake of the 2006 JRPG, is set to release on February 2, 2024, and offers updated visuals and quality-of-life improvements for a modern experience.
  • Alongside Persona 3 Reload, there are rumors that two Persona spin-off games will be announced in 2024: Persona 5: The Phantom X, a mobile spin-off currently in beta testing in China, and Persona “ASA,” a multiplayer party game featuring characters from the entire franchise.
  • 2024 also holds the potential for the long-awaited announcement of Persona 6, as it will be eight years since the release of Persona 5. Although the game’s internal release window is rumored to be 2025, an official reveal is expected in 2024, potentially during major gaming events like the Summer Game Fest.

The Persona series had a solid year in 2023, with games like Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden coming to modern consoles to start the year, and Persona 5 Tactica releasing to cap the year off. While the year was light on new mainline games, it did also include the reveal of Persona 3 Reload at the Xbox games Showcase in Summer 2023. While these releases and reveals were great for Persona fans in 2023, next year is looking even better with the series in position for some big launches and possibly even bigger announcements.

Atlus has been pretty consistent with Persona releases over the years, with nearly every year since the release of Persona 3 containing a new game. It appears that 2024 will continue this trend with Persona 3 Reload slated for release early in the year, but there are other titles fans could see pop up as the year goes on. Between the release of Persona 3 Reload and the possibility of a Persona 6 reveal, 2024 has the potential to be one of the biggest years the Persona franchise has seen in a while.

Sega and Atlus may be releasing two Persona titles next year if recent reports are correct, and fans have started speculating on what they could be.

Persona 3 Reload Will Release at the Beginning of February

Persona fans can expect a strong start to 2024 as Persona 3 Reload is set to release early in the year on February 2. Prior to its announcement in Summer 2023, many fans of the series had been hoping for a Persona 3 remake in the style of Persona 5 for some time, and Persona 3 Reload seems to be just what these fans were hoping for. The game looks to take the best of both worlds, combining the elements fans loved about the original game with improved mechanics from more recent entries, new voice acting, and a graphical overhaul to create a fresh take on the beloved entry.

There has been a lot of hype leading up to this game’s launch, with Atlus releasing consistent trailers detailing the characters players will meet in Persona 3 Reload, as well as the new and returning mechanics they can expect to find. While there was some controversy about Persona 3 Reload lacking the additional content present in Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable, Atlus may be planning to release this content as DLC sometime down the line. However, players will still be able to experience a fresh take on the familiar world of Persona 3 when Persona 3 Reload kicks off the series’ 2024 plans in early February.

Atlus Could Officially Announce More Persona Spin-Off Titles

While Persona 3 Reload is definitely the star of the series’ 2024 line-up, there is a possibility that fans might see some games-tier-list-3-4-5-q-dancing-arena-ultimax/”>Persona spin-off games announced next year as well. There are two major titles rumored to be headed for a 2024 reveal that fans may want to keep an eye out for.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Global Release

Developed by Black Wings Game Studio with official authorization from Sega and Atlus, Persona 5: The Phantom X is a mobile spin-off of Persona 5 that follows a similar gameplay loop with a new story. The game takes place in the same world as Persona 5 with players able to visit familiar locations like Shibuya and Yongen-Jaya, but features a new protagonist and playable party members. So far, Persona 5: The Phantom X has only been available for beta test periods in China, but there is a possibility that it will see a global release announcement sometime in 2024.

The Rumored Persona “ASA” Game

Another spin-off game that is rumored to be in development is a new Persona game code-named “ASA,” supposedly targeting a Q3 2024 release date. Persona ASA is said to be a party game similar to something like Mario Party but featuring a cast of characters from across the Persona series. It’s not clear what type of gameplay or mini-games this title would feature, but the inclusion of characters from the original Persona all the way up through Persona 5 makes it seem like a title designed to be a celebration of the franchise.

Persona 6 Might Finally Be Revealed

The question of when Persona 6 will be revealed is weighing on the minds of many Persona fans, but the answer might be in 2024. Next year will make it eight years since Persona 5 first launched, meaning there is a better chance than ever that Persona 6 is on the horizon and an official reveal is imminent. With how popular Persona 5 is, spawning multiple spin-offs and helping the series reach new audiences worldwide, there is a lot of pressure riding on Persona 6 to deliver a worthy follow-up experience, so Atlus likely wants to take their time to get the game just right.

However, rumors point towards Persona 6 having an internal planned release window of 2025, so it’s likely that the game will be officially announced in 2024. The Summer Game Fest or other major presentations around that time make the most sense for a reveal of this size, and Persona 3 Reload‘s announcement at the Xbox games Showcase in Summer 2023 sets a precedent for the franchise appearing at these types of events. Atlus will have to balance its Persona news with its upcoming title Metaphor: ReFantazio, which could complicate the timing of Persona 6‘s announcement.
