Helldivers 2 Players Want This Fan Made Assault Mission To Become A Reality

Highlights

  • A fellow Helldiver has designed an ‘Assault’ mission as a potential offensive counterpart to the recently added ‘Evacuate High Value Assets’ mission type.
  • Arrowhead CEO John Pilestedt replied to the concept, saying the idea was considered in the past.

A Helldivers 2 player has designed a detailed concept outline for a new ‘Assault’ mission type, but Arrowhead CEO John Pilestedt says the idea has already been toyed with in the past.

Earlier this month, Helldivers celebrated their victory over the Automatons, eradicating them from existence. Or so they thought. It didn’t take long for these deadly metal beings to make their return, along with a brand-new defensive mission type that required players to evacuate high-value assets.

Helldivers 2’s New Update Secretly Added A New Mission Type

Yesterday’s update made no reference to a new mission type in the patch notes, but we’re not complaining.

This brand-new mission type can only be found on defending planets and requires players to be on at least level 5 difficulty. With 20 minutes on the clock, Helldivers must defend a fortified base until a total of 8 rockets have been launched. After you’ve successfully defended the area from an onslaught of Automatons, you and your fellow Helldivers will be able to extract.

Fans have praised the recent addition, with fans on Reddit giving props to the developers for adding a defence mission that is actually layered. But now players believe there should be an opposing mission type that acts as an offensive counterpart.

Over on Reddit, ThePengu has designed a completely new Assault mission to act as a counterpart to the ‘Evacuate High Value Assets’ mission.

Similar to the High Value Assets mission type, players would have 20 minutes to destroy either the Automaton’s strategic computer or the Terminid’s spore citadel. The exact objective would vary depending on which type of enemy you were going up against.

The Automaton variant of this mission would see players fight to gain access to a heavily fortified Automaton complex. “Helldivers will need to fight through fabricators and heavily armored gates while the Automatons are repeatedly reinforced,” the concept image states. It goes on to explain how once the core is reached, players must activate multiple terminals to open the core and leave it vulnerable to a Hellbomb.

When it comes to the Terminid side of things, players will instead need to fight their way through nests and organic gates while battling against a boatload of Terminid forces. “Once the peak is reached, the Termicide Injector can be called down, functioning similarly to the ‘Conduct Geological Survey’ and must be defended before extraction arrives at the peak.”

Fans were eager for this concept to become a reality, with one user saying, “This is such a cool concept I hope it gets added.” Unfortunately, it looks like Arrowhead has already toyed with the idea in the past and opted against it.

Arrowhead CEO John Pilestedt caught wind of the concept and replied to it on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “This is crazy similar to a prototype objective from some years back.” Why the studio opted to not move forward with the mission type remains a mystery, but maybe with a revitalized interest, Arrowhead might return to the idea? Only time will tell.
